A way mark post from the Michaelston-y-Fedw Circular Walk has been found on the beach at Doolin, Ireland after a 5 year, 400 mile journey.

Oscar Bradley, his partner Sophie and Oscar's father were visiting a festival in Doolin for the day when they decided to go to the pier in Doolin for a walk. Oscar's father spotted a wooden post on the stoney beach by the pier and decided to investigate. Oscar and Sophie watched as he carried the post precariously over the pebbles, determined to bring it to steady ground.

 

After discussing whether the hinges were bronze or galvanised with a man he met from Belfast they concluded they were indeed galvanised and they decided to take it home with them to Cork.

The following morning they decided to investigate the post's origin and noticed there was a partial circular plate attached to the post on which they could make out 'MICHA' and 'CIRCULAR WALK'. Oscar contacted Ramblers Cymru, Cefn Mably Arms landlady Caroline Hill and the Newport Outdoor Group on Facebook to find out more about the post.

 

Andrew from the Cardiff Ramblers shared the year and exact location from where it went missing: "I attach two photos of a walk leaflet produced by Newport Council which details the walk. The 'D' on the post identifies it as the way mark post at position D on the map.

"Some years back, around 2020, South Wales suffered from a severe storm and the river Rhymney burst its banks. The kissing gate at D was completely smashed and some of it swept away. I know this as after the storm, I was walking the part of this route and witnessed the destruction."

Oscar says "We've had a good laugh at imagining the encounters the post has had over its 5 year journey. We hope one day it may even take an assisted bob back to its rightful home of Michaelston-y-Fedw."
